WS06 - Onsite Water Reuse, Water Infrastructure + Society, Powered by PechaKucha

Tuesday, October 4 from 1:15 PM to 3:30 PM | 511ABC

Abstract Text:

Droughts, access to clean water, and pollution of freshwater sources continue to become bigger and bigger global challenges. The first four pecha kucha presentations in this session will explore ways to address water scarcity through new water recycling technologies, net zero efforts for local graywater reuse, wastewater treatment sanitation innovation, and onsite infrastructure for drought and resilience. Using real examples and case studies from California and around the world, speakers will explain the importance of addressing the water crisis and layout ways that we can have an immediate positive impact. Following the presentations, there will be audience discussion where participants can debate the ideas presented and suggest additional solutions and applications. Water flows through our communities every hour of every day. As ubiquitous as it is, developed countries often have the luxury to overlook the careful design of such a fundamental societal function. Still, scarcity, quality, access, efficiency and equity are central water issues for any community when managing potable water systems. The final four pecha kucha presentations will illuminate thoughtful approaches to comprehensive, holistic water management with a focus on contemporary responses to many of today’s most pressing threats to water security in American communities. The speakers will deliver four perspectives in a lively format, challenging the audience to consider new opportunities to build more equitable and resilient water infrastructure for a more sustainable future. [This session comprises two, one-hour segments of four speakers who will deliver perspectives in a lively, “Pecha Kucha” format. The first segment is titled “Water, Infrastructure & Society” and the second is titled “Onsite Water Reuse.” PechaKucha 20x20 is a presentation format where speakers show 20 images, each for 20 seconds each (invented by architects in Tokyo). It’s a fun and quick way to deliver information.]
